Here’s how you can transform ordinary hardware materials into extraordinary Christmas decorations.

Light Switch Christmas Ornament

To give a plain old light switch cover a fabulous makeover, just follow these easy steps. First, grab some spray paint in a colour you love and give that cover a new look. Next, go wild with some disco glitter – who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle, right? You might want to seal in all that glittery goodness with a bit of craft glue to keep it from shedding everywhere. Once it’s all dry, take a photo you adore, trim it to fit the switch cover, and stick it on with some glue dots. Voilà, you’ve got yourself a cute little frame! To finish off, pop on some holiday decorations at the bottom screw hole. The top hole? Perfect for threading a string through and hanging up your snazzy new creation. How about making a personalized one for every member of the family? It’s a fun, easy project that adds a personal touch to your Christmas tree.

Hex Nut Snowflake Ornament

Get crafty with hex nuts by arranging them into a cool snowflake shape – it’s easier than you think! Once you’ve got your design laid out, bond them together with some super glue and let it dry. Next, give your metallic snowflake a magical touch by spray painting it metallic spray paint to add a shimmer effect for that snowy sparkle. Finally, just thread a ribbon through one of the nuts, and there you go – your very own DIY snowflake ornament, ready to hang up and show off! This is a super fun and unique way to add a bit of industrial-chic to your holiday decor.

Bright Lights Ornaments

Here’s a sparkly DIY idea: take some glass light bulbs and give them a new life! Just slather them in craft glue – don’t be shy with it – and then get your glitter on. Sprinkle your favorite glitter all over for that fabulous shine. To hang them up, just dab a bit of glue using your glue gun on the top and stick a piece of twine on it. For a neat finish, wrap some more twine around the top. And there you have it, your very own glittery bulb ornaments ready to dazzle up any space!

Corner Brackets Ornament

Here’s a fun idea for a DIY Christmas tree using corner brackets. You can either play around with different sizes for a tiered look or keep it simple with just one size. Start by spray painting the brackets white for a fresh, snowy feel. Then, to hold them together, hot glue a string of twine along the back, making sure to leave a small loop at the top for hanging. To add a bit more flair, cut some beads off a stick of beaded garland and hot glue them into the holes. While pearl white beads can give a subtle elegance, switching to ‘iced’ red beads can add a lovely contrast and really make the tree pop. The final result is a unique and charming Christmas decoration!

DIY Christmas Tree Forest

Here’s a cool way to make wood trees from scrap boards – perfect for adding a rustic touch to your decor!

Tools You’ll Need:

  • A miter saw
  • Some glue

Materials:

  • Paint or wood stain
  • 1×2, 1×3, 1×4 pine boards
  • 120-220 grit sandpaper

Step 1: Cut the Wood First, choose an angle between 10 and 30 degrees on your mitre saw. Remember, the larger the angle, the gentler the slope of the tree. Create a triangle for the top of the tree using the miter saw. For the second cut, either adjust the saw to the other side or flip the board and cut from the opposite side. To plan the next cut, place the next board under the triangle, decide the overhang you want, and mark it with a pencil. Then, cut your 2nd and 3rd tiers. Tip: Vary the board size or angle for different tree sizes.

Step 2: Glue | Next, stick the pieces together. Start with the top piece and attach it to the second piece, then stick this onto the 3rd tier. Let the trees dry while standing up.

Step 3: Sand | Once dry, sand the trees using 120-220 grit sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges.

Step 4: Stain or Paint | Lastly, either wood stain or paint your trees in your favourite colours.

And there you have it, your own handmade wooden trees, perfect for a cozy, festive vibe!

Concrete Minimalist Ornaments

Start by grabbing any old plastic container or bucket you’ve got lying around. For the perfect clay-like consistency needed for this project, mix about 4 cups of concrete with 1 cup of water. Add the water gradually to get that just-right texture. It’s best to mix this with your hands – it’s a bit messy but totally worth it!

Now, roll out some parchment paper and scoop your concrete mixture onto it. Cover it with another parchment sheet and roll it out with a rolling pin until it’s about 1cm thick.

Time for the fun part – cutting out your ornaments! Grab some cookie cutters and press them all the way through the concrete. Keep the cutter in place and use a toothpick or a wood skewer to poke a hole near the top for hanging. This little trick helps avoid any cracks in the concrete.

Resist the urge to remove any excess concrete around the edges – it might cause the ornaments to break. Just let everything set for about 24 hours, or at least overnight.

The next day, it’s time to reveal your creations! Gently break off the excess concrete and smooth out the edges with some sandpaper.

For a bit of sparkle, brush the sides of your ornaments with tacky craft glue and dip them in glitter. And there you have it, your very own homemade, glitter-edged concrete ornaments!
